Instructor Rating Requirements
The Instructor Rating allows you to exercise the privileges as a Flight Training Instructor, subject to the provisions and limitations of the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
An Instructor Rating accelerates the time building process, forms an important part of the Professional Career Pilot development.

After successful completion of the course requirements, a new Instructor exercises the privileges of a Class 4 Instructor, operating under supervision at a flight school. With experience, you move up to a Class 3 Instructor, requiring less supervision. With further experience and required exams opportunities present to move up to a Class 2, Class 1 and/or CFI (Chief Flight Instructor).
Following the issuance of a Commercial License the Transport Canada requirements for the issue of an Instructor Rating are as follows:
Age
Must be at least 17 years of age
Medical
Valid Class 1 Medical Certificate
Skill
Pass Transport Canada Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane Class 4 (AIRAF)
Flight Instructor Rating - Aeroplane Flight Test
Experience
Must first hold a valid Commercial Pilots License (CPL)
Minimum Total Experience Requirements
30 hours dual Flight Instruction
25 hours Ground School
